The Urban Acres store is stocked!  Come see us this weekend for some huge juicy watermelon and beautiful basil bouquets just picked from the field at Gundermann Acres in Wharton County.  Try some samples of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams made with grass-fed cow’s milk, or some Texas figs topped with goat cheese from Caprino Royale.

Take a look…

A variety of seasonal local and organic produce…

Farm-fresh Texas dairy…

Healthier snacks and desserts made with fresh, quality ingredients…

…and of course our usual selection of pastured Texas meats, low-pasteurized milk, and much more!

Heirloom Tomato, Mozzarella & Basil Stacks

June 19th, 2010

Ingredients: (many of these items are sold at the store!)

  • 2 Heirloom Tomatoes
  • 1 Ball of Full Quiver Farms Mozzarella
  • Handful of fresh Basil leaves
  • Real Sea Salt
  • Cracked Black Pepper
  • Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Balsamic Vinegar

Slice tomatoes and mozzarella horizontally into rounds. Slice basil leaves. To form a stack, place 1 tomato round on the plate and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place 1 mozzarella round on top of tomato and sprinkle with basil leaves. Add another sprinkle of salt & pepper on top.

Make several more stacks on the plate and then drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Let the oil and vinegar soak into the bottom of the tomatoes for a few minutes before eating them, one delicious stack at a time! Toast up some delicious Sourdough or Garlic bread (from Village Baking Co. which is also sold at the store) for a layered Bruschetta bread!
